We are recruiting an experienced
Materials Engineer to join a specialist technical team within an internationally recognised precision engineering and manufacturing business.
This is an excellent opportunity for a materials engineering professional with a strong interest in
metallurgy, materials performance and manufacturing processes to work on technically challenging projects across sectors including
Oil & Gas, Defence and Renewables.
The role combines materials engineering, technical review, process development and quality improvement, with the opportunity to contribute directly to the performance, reliability and development of specialist engineering products and processes.
About the Role
As a
Materials Engineer, you will provide technical support across project and production activities, reviewing specifications, drawings, standards and material requirements to ensure compliance with customer and quality requirements.
You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders on materials engineering and metallurgy matters, while supporting the development and qualification of manufacturing processes, particularly within
induction bending and hot forming.
You will also contribute to technical investigations, testing, continuous improvement and the development of new and existing equipment and procedures.
Key Responsibilities - Perform technical reviews of project specifications, drawings, purchase orders and national and international standards
- Validate material and technical requirements at quotation stage
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders on materials engineering and metallurgy matters
- Ensure allocated work scopes comply with applicable product and quality standards
- Support quality review activities and help reduce rework
- Investigate materials and induction bending quality issues and support corrective and preventative actions
- Assist with the development and improvement of new and existing equipment
- Support the continuous development of induction bending procedures and technical policies
- Translate drawings and design requirements into appropriate bending requirements
- Develop methods of qualification in line with relevant codes, standards and customer specifications
- Prepare and review documentation required for production bending
- Ensure contractual and technical requirements are appropriately addressed and recorded
- Define heat treatment requirements for production
- Review heat treatment documentation on completion
- Develop, qualify and apply bending procedures
- Prepare and review procedures and procedure qualifications for specific contracts
- Ensure procedures comply with relevant national and international standards and customer specifications
- Coordinate and control chemical, corrosion and mechanical testing
- Assess test results against contract requirements
- Review the suitability of bending equipment for specific project requirements
- Provide technical input regarding maintenance and calibration requirements for bending equipment
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across materials and manufacturing processes
What We're Looking For - Relevant experience in a Materials Engineering, Materials Science or Metallurgy role
- Minimum Level 6 Materials Science Technologist, Level 7 Materials Process Engineer qualification, or a relevant degree specialising in materials, metallurgy or materials engineering
- Strong knowledge of materials science and metallurgy
- Knowledge and experience of hot forming processes
- Good understanding of materials standards
- Excellent research, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to interpret technical specifications, drawings and standards
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders
- Proficient user of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
Previous experience within the
Oil & Gas sector would be advantageous but is not essential.
Membership of a professional institution such as
IOM3 would be desirable.
Working knowledge of
Q-Pulse would also be advantageous.
