We are recruiting an experienced
PSV Engineer for an exciting opportunity with a leading UK transport and tourism business operating a large fleet of buses and coaches.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced
PSV or HGV Engineer currently based overseas who is looking to develop their career in the UK. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining the safety, reliability and performance of a busy fleet, working alongside experienced Operations and Fleet teams.
The role offers a high level of independence and is suited to a technically strong engineer with experience in vehicle maintenance, fault diagnosis and preventative maintenance, together with a strong commitment to safety and quality.
About the Role
As a
PSV Engineer, you will be responsible for the inspection, servicing, maintenance and repair of buses and coaches, ensuring vehicles are safe, reliable and ready for service.
Working closely with the Operations and Fleet teams, you will diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical faults, support vehicle departures, carry out preventative maintenance and ensure all engineering work is completed in accordance with company procedures and
DVSA standards.
The role operates on a
4 days on / 4 days off, 12-hour shift pattern, including early and late duties. Bank holiday and Christmas Day working will be required when scheduled, with occasional flexibility required for events outside normal shift hours.
Key Responsibilities - Carry out routine inspections, servicing, planned preventative maintenance and repairs on buses and coaches
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical and technical faults
- Repair or replace faulty components including engines, brakes, suspension and electrical systems
- Ensure all maintenance and repair work meets required safety and regulatory standards
- Prepare vehicles for MOT and carry out required quality and safety checks
- Inspect vehicles and identify potential faults before they affect operational reliability
- Support drivers with vehicle departures and resolve technical issues affecting scheduled services
- Communicate with the Traffic Office regarding vehicle performance, defects and service disruptions
- Review vehicle defect cards and ensure corrective actions are completed and recorded
- Maintain accurate engineering records, inspection reports and maintenance documentation
- Assist with stock control of parts, tools and engineering materials
- Support vehicle cleaning, shunting and bus wash operations when required
- Ensure vehicles are parked and stored safely and appropriately
- Report incidents, accidents and personal injuries occurring within the garage
- Work closely with Fleet Management and Operations to schedule maintenance and minimise disruption
- Provide technical support and guidance to drivers and operational colleagues
- Identify opportunities to improve vehicle reliability, performance and maintenance processes
- Maintain a clean, safe and well-organised engineering environment
What We're Looking For - Level 2 or Level 3 NVQ qualification in Engineering, or equivalent
- IRTEC qualification
- Strong practical experience in PSV or HGV maintenance
- Good knowledge of vehicle mechanical and electrical systems
- Experience diagnosing electrical circuits and vehicle electrical systems
- Experience carrying out vehicle inspections and scheduled maintenance
- Strong understanding of engineering procedures and health & safety requirements
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and take responsibility for engineering decisions
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- A proactive and flexible approach to working in a busy operational environment
- Bus/PCV driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points
- Ability to successfully pass the required PCV pre-employment medical
